“STEPs on Arthur creates opportunities and provides support to adults with intellectual disabilities, maximizing their potential within our community. The $50,000 grant was applied directly toward a much-needed roof replacement of STEPs on Arthur’s Rotary House building. Rotary House along with Delaney House are the two main facilities that house STEPs day-to-day operations. STEPs is most grateful and truly appreciative of receiving this funding, helping to ensure the ongoing sustainability and protection of our facility assets.”

The Province is investing $2.67 million toward major renovations and accessibility upgrades at the historic Truro Amateur Athletic Club grounds.
“The Truro Amateur Athletic Club has been part of the Truro community for more than 120 years,” Dave Ritcey, MLA for Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River, said on behalf of Pat Dunn, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “With this investment, we are improving the experience for the families who use the grounds and making it more accessible so that people of all ages and abilities can benefit from the facilities they need to live active, healthy lives.”
Applications for the 2023 Property Tax Rebate for Seniors Open July 1
Applications for the Property Tax Rebate for Seniors, which helps seniors on a low-income with their municipal residential property taxes, open Saturday, July 1.
The program offers eligible seniors a rebate of half of their property taxes, up to $800.
"The Property Tax Rebate for Seniors is another step we are taking to help Nova Scotians offset the increasing costs of living," said Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Service Nova Scotia. "I encourage everyone who is eligible to apply."
The eligibility criteria include:
-- 2022 municipal residential property taxes paid in full
-- applicant's name is included on the property taxes
-- the applicant receives or is eligible to receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) or Guaranteed Income Supplement - Allowance from Service Canada.
Applications are open until December 31. People who received the rebate last year will receive an application by mail starting next week.
The application also includes the option to apply for the upcoming Heating Assistance Rebate Program.
The Province reminds Nova Scotians that the names of rebate programs can be used as part of phishing or other schemes to collect people's personal information such as social insurance numbers and banking information. The provincial government would never call, email or text asking for this type of information or send payments through electronic funds transfers.

Province, Teachers Reach New Agreement
The Province and the Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU) have successfully negotiated a new, three-year Teachers’ Provincial Agreement.
The new agreement is about an investment in students and student outcomes and supports teachers across the province. Ratification by NSTU members was announced today, May 22.
"Students are at the core of our education system, a fact I truly feel is recognized by the agreement we’ve successfully negotiated with the NSTU," said Becky Druhan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. "We’ve heard from teachers about how to improve classroom conditions and outcomes and are acting on a shared commitment to create great learning and great working environments, both through this new agreement and through ongoing work at the departmental, regional and school levels."
Under the new agreement, one of the key initiatives to improve student conditions will be having a dedicated school counsellor or similar position in every school.
The new agreement will be posted online in the coming days.
